Bart Wichowski is a dedicated mental health professional whose life of service began at the age of 17 when he joined the Connecticut Army National Guard. After completing basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia, he was deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, with the 143rd Military Police Company during Operation Iraqi Freedom. There, he conducted joint patrols, trained Iraqi military police, and provided critical security operations. Bart was wounded in an IED attack and was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice.
Following his military service, Bart embarked on a career in law enforcement, serving with distinction in multiple roles. He began with the Department of Veterans Affairs Police, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant and earned the Life Saving Award. Later, he joined the New Britain Police Department, where he served in patrol, professional standards, and as co-leader of the Crisis Negotiation Team, resolving high-stakes incidents with calm and compassion. As the founder and lead of the department’s Navigator Unit, he built one of the state's first mental health response teams and was recognized by the FBI for his contributions to a major investigation.
Drawing from his experience in high-stress environments, Bart transitioned to the field of mental health, earning a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Sacred Heart University. He has worked with veterans, first responders, and individuals struggling with trauma, anxiety, substance use, and suicidal ideation. Now a full-time therapist, Bart integrates evidence-based practices like CBT and DBT into his care, offering support and healing to those navigating life’s most challenging moments. His journey from soldier and police officer to therapist reflects a deep commitment to service, resilience, and the well-being of others.
